Annie Lenox covers Paula Cole December 06th, 2011

From: Popservations - December 1, 2011

As today is World AIDS Day, I wanted to shine a light on one of the music world’s most tireless advocates for those affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, Annie Lennox.
Long dedicated to humanitarian causes (with Eurythmics partner Dave Stewart, she supported Amnesty International and Greenpeace), Lennox was invited in 2003 to perform at an AIDS charity concert hosted by former South African president Nelson Mandela. Hearing him talk about the millions who’d died there from the disease, and particularly jolted by Mandela’s labeling the loss as a genocide, Lennox was inspired to take personal action.

Wellspring Ticket Give-Away October 07th, 2011

Dear Folks,

Your notes to me were touching, incredible. It was extremely difficult to choose.  So, I ended up selecting three letters, and gave you all of my tickets to the show!
Congratulations Tina, Judy and Amanda (and accompanying friends.)  I hope you have a wonderful time at the concert.  To everyone else, thank you profoundly for sharing your thoughts, your support, your love.  I know times are hard and the economy is horrible.  We do have music to help us through, and by God, we will get through.  I sincerely hope to see you all very soon!

Love,
Paula.

New Track:  Walk On By (Live) February 17th, 2011

Dear Folks,

This is our FIRST time playing “Walk On By” as a trio live. We recorded this at Infinity Hall, Norfolk, CT on Thursday February 10th, 2011 to a loving audience. Nothing like warts and all, just like it used to be back when music was great! No auto-tune or harmonizers or re-takes. Find my vocal cracking on a high note - just like the good ol’ days in music! This recording features Ben Wittman on drums, Steve Eliot on guitar and Frank DeGennaro as our sound engineer. I play piano and sing.

As some of you know, I love to honor writers in my set. Sometimes it’s Dolly or Joni or John Lennon. This time it’s Burt Bacharach, with whom I’ve had the sincere honor to perform. The last time I saw Burt, he performed his own “Alfie” on piano. It was heart-breakingly beautiful. (That is probably my favorite song of his…“without true love we just exist”...such an exquisite melody…) Burt Bacharach is a pillar on which contemporary music is built and shaped. Out of my love for his music (especially those gems from the early 60’s with Hal Leonard and Dionne Warwick), I want to share this moment as we together supplicate to the mystery and divinity that is music.

Be well everyone,
Paula.

Paula Cole Review For Glide Magazine! January 03rd, 2011

On her most recent album Ithaca, Paula Cole often sings about the process of homecoming, using the Greek myth of Odysseus and his teyear sojourn away from home as a parallel for her album. The title, as well as the music on the album itself, is deeply personal, denoting upheaval, discord and eventual calm. While this comparison between her journey and Odysseus’ is especially apt, it can be extrapolated further to describe pretty much the way Paula Cole writes music.
